City tour and Catherine Palace in Pushkin
During this tour you will see the most attractive places of St.Petersburg. The tour starts with a photo stop on the Spit of the Basil’s Island where the distinctive Rostral Columns served as light houses on the Neva; a network of large and small decorated stone and iron bridges connects the islands and is a visual delight, and you will have an excellent view of the Winter Palace and the Hermitage buildings as well as the St. Peter and Paul Fortress. The tour includes a photo stop near with St.Isaac’s Cathedral. The massive St. Isaac’s Cathedral, reminiscent of St Peters’s in Rome. This magnificent building took 40 years to complete, and the great dome, covered with more than 200 pounds of pure gold, is one of the largest in the world.
Then your tour continues to a drive to Pushkin, to the magnificent splendor of Catherine Palace. You will visit the palace named in honor of Peter the Great’s wife, Catherine I. Constructed in the mid-18th century, the palace is breathtaking in its size and elegance. The ornate blue façade is nearly 1,000 feet long, with the golden onion domes of its chapel rising at the north end. Your guide will walk you through a series of magnificent rooms including the famous Picture Gallery, the Amber Room and of course the Great Hall, the most spacious room in the palace which is also noted for its luxurious, fairytale interior complete with fine furnishings and china. The grounds comprise 1,482 acres of landscaped gardens and parklands, embellished by charming pavilions which add to the splendor.
