St.Petersburg is the city situated on the banks of Neva-river. It was founded by the Russian Emperor Peter the Great at the beginning of the 18th century. Now St.Petersburg is the Largest touristic centre on the North-West of Russia. Its sightseeing and museums are well-known all over the world. You will see a lot of the sights that have made St.Petersburg famous: St.Isaac Square and St.Isaac’s Cathedral, the Spit of Vasilievsky island with the Rostral Columns and the Stock Exchange building, the Bronze Horseman monument, Peter and Paul Fortress and legendary battleship “Aurora”, the Field of Mars and the Summer Garden, the Cathedral of a Saviour-on-the-Spilled Blood and the Winter Palace. The nickname of the city is the “The Northern Venice”, because there are 65 rivers and canals on its territory, more than 300 bridges and a lot of beautiful embankments.
Then your tour continues to a drive to Peterhof, situated about 22 miles to the west of St. Petersburg on the southern shore of the Gulf of Finland. Built by Peter the Great at the beginning of the 18th century to rival Versailles, this town of palaces, fountains and parks is known as the grandest of all the summer residences of the Russian Tsars. Your visit will include a guided tour of the magnificent park and gardens. Peter the Great designed the layout of the 300-acre park with its spectacular fountains by himself. The Grand Cascade, often considered the highlight of the grounds, consists of three waterfalls, an avenue of 64 fountains and 37 gilded statues. During the World War II, the estate was occupied and all the buildings and fountains were virtually destroyed, so it has taken many years to restore Peterhof right down to the last detail.
