Venice of the North

Sightseeing tour and St. Isaac’s Cathedral visit and Boat trip

This tour is seasonal. It’s held during the period from 01/05/2020 till 01/10/2020

Born as the marine capital, St. Petersburg is the city of countless bridges, rivers and canals. This tour gives you an opportunity to explore both sides of the city, overland and from water.

The program will start with onshore acquaintance with the city. The comfortable bus will bring you through the most famous sights of the city. Our lively guide will convert an extensive bus ride into an entertaining learning experience. While enjoying city views you will get to know a lot of interesting facts and stories about the Northern capital of Russia.

You will be welcome to leave the bus to take memorable photos by several important attractions of the city. The list of stops will include:

Photostops will include:

  • Spilled Blood Cathedral, the architectural quintessence of the beautiful Russian soul and one of the famous churches in the world;
  • Spit of Vasilievsky Island, a beautiful ensemble of the historic port and commercial center with the stunning view on Neva water area
  • St. Nicholas Cathedral, one of the most distinct examples of Russian Baroque, built to commemorate heroes of marine fleet

You will have the guided visit in the massive St. Isaac’s Cathedral, reminiscent of St. Peters’s in Rome. This magnificent building took 40 years to complete, and the great dome, covered with more than 200 pounds of pure gold, is one of the largest in the world and one of the main cathedrals of the Russian Orthodox Church at the time of the Russian Empire. The structure is supported by 112 monolithic columns, and the interior is elaborately decorated with more than 30 different kinds of marble, spectacular mosaics, painted ceiling murals and sculptures.

The main experience of the program is a 1-hour boat ride along rivers and channels of the Northern Venice.

Peter the Great, the founder of St. Petersburg wanted the system of channels to replace the street system with citizen travelling primarily on boat. The Russian emperor took special attention to the beauty of the buildings constructed on embankments: ‘water avenues’ should have impressed any guest of the new capital – as they surely do now.

The boat route will cover a journey on River Neva under beautiful bridges and a ride through minor rivers and channels of St. Petersburg, full of surprises pleasing your eyes.
