Peter and Paul Fortress is truly the cradle of St. Petersburg. Founded by Peter the Great on the 27th of May,1703 to protect the country from Swedish army, it gave birth to the city. Located on separate island, Peter and Paul’s complex involves one of major cathedrals of the city housing the graves of all the Russian emperors, the mint, and the former prison.
St. Isaac’s Cathedral is the biggest Orthodox dome in St. Petersburg and the second highest cathedral in Europe after St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. The cathedral has as many as 112 solid stone columns, and the golden cupola that shines on all the corners of the flat city.
Spilled Blood Cathedral not only expresses truly Russian vision of beauty but also commemorates dramatic events of the past. It is here that you will face unbelievable 7 000 sq. m. of mosaics. Unlike most other buildings in St. Petersburg adapting European architectural traditions, Spilled Blood Cathedral was designed in the spirit of romantic nationalism resembling 17th century Russian Churches.
The program will include a guided bus sightseeing excursion crossing the heart of the city. It will invite the guests to get acquainted with rich history and urban legends of St. Petersburg.
This excursion connecting the inside visits of the major sights of the Northern Venice will also include several photo stops.
